ACA Nominations and Elections Chair Marcheta Evans and I would like you to know that Dr. Cirecie West-Olatunji has been elected to serve as the Association’s 62nd President. Dr. West-Olatunji has served as a volunteer leader at the branch, division and national levels. Currently, Cirecie serves on the ACA Governing Council as the representative from the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD), and is a member of our Executive Committee. In 2007-08, she served as president of AMCD. Cirecie has been dedicated to the profession and our organization for a number of years.

In addition to Cirecie, this year’s candidates included Christine Moll, Michael D’Andrea, Michael Kocet, Kelly Duncan, and Gerald Juhnke. ACA leaders and members appreciate those who were willing to run for office. The commitment of these fine individuals to run demonstrates their desire to improve the profession. Fielding such a strong group reminds us that ACA is able to attract superior individuals who wish to serve.

There were more than 2,700 votes cast which was quite close to the number of ballots received last year. This was clearly one of the highest levels of participation in the last five years.

Cirecie will begin her term as President-Elect on July 1, 2012 and she will assume the role of ACA President on July 1, 2013 for a one-year term.

Cirecie is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Human Development and Organizational Studies in Education at the University of Florida. She received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of New Orleans, her M.Ed. from that same institution, and her B.A. from Dartmouth College. She is the recipient of numerous honors, grants, and awards. Cirecie has also written extensively for many journals, contributed book chapters, and has co-authored three books.

If you would like to contact Cirecie, her e-mail is: cwestolatunji@coe.ufl.edu.  Please join us in wishing her well as she begins this important journey in ACA leadership!

Regards,

Rich
