- According to the Continuity of Access research study, support for offenders with mental health problems “falls substantially short” of the treatment available for offenders with addictions. The most effective mental health initiatives were the ones that allowed offenders to get support they saw as relevant to their own situation, the study reported.
- When it comes to the question of what leads military veterans to commit acts of violence upon returning home, many people assume that exposure to combat and struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are root causes. However, a survey published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry revealed that veterans who had problems with alcohol, a criminal background, social problems and the inability to financially cover basic needs were more likely to report aggressive behavior than veterans with PTSD.
